Once in a lifetime, a dog comes into your life and it sets a standard for all others. Camelot's Corbett Creek Gracie is that dog for me.
Gracie was purchased from Terri and Phil Ratledge who are exceptional, small hobby breeders in Ohio. My friend, Justine was starting a kennel and I had spent many hours helping her and teacher her the business of setting up a kennel and starting with quality stock.
She found Terri on the internet, asked me to look at the pedigrees and I was impressed! We each bought a puppy and of course she got first pick. She named hers Jewel and I got Gracie.
As a puppy, Gracie was incorrigible: Can't find the dust pan? Gracie had it out in the yard. Want to wear your ten dollar Lab socks to the dog show this weekend? Can't find one because Gracie chewed it. I saved six months to buy a Kodak Easy Share Camera; I bought the top of the line to take pictures of our dogs. My husband placed it on Gracie's crate inside my bag and the camera was demolished! (Why don't we every buy the extended warranties?)
At one year old and an obedience call later, Gracie started to listen and boy did she love attention. Just rub my ears, my belly... ok rub anywhere. She was eager to please and a joy to won and I was beginning to be able to find the dust pan!
Gracie started her show career at eight months, under Joe Diaz my handler. Constantly jumping up on him, he scolded me and told me to get her back to breed classes (training for the AKC ring). I was going and she loved it! She started to win. Her first weekend out, she took first over twenty other bitches, then second out of eighteen. At the Ladies Dog Club, the Boston Show in December 2007, she won Best of Opposite Sex over sixty-four other exceptional Lab females. She placed every time out. Her show career blossomed going to eight days of competition in Pennsylvania and Ohio in March of 2008. Breeders and spectators commented on her beautiful temperament and movement around the ring. The spring shows around New Hampshire and Massachusetts were a great success.

wagging her tail.
Gracie is three points away from being a Champion. She loves the show ring and strutting "her stuff. | |
